Ottawa police say officer-involved shooting near downtown mall

Apr 29, 2025 | 12:50 PM

OTTAWA — Police presence is heavy around a downtown Ottawa mall as police report an officer-involved shooting in the area.

Ottawa Police said on social media the doors to the Rideau Centre were locked, but they have since re-opened.

The shooting took place near the northeast corner of that mall, which is located a short walk away from Parliament Hill.

Police say there is no active threat to public safety, and there are “no outstanding suspects.”

Parliamentary Protective Service vehicles were seen speeding to Parliament Hill with sirens blaring, but there is no indication of a threat to the precinct.

Police have cordoned off an entrance to the mall, but on the inside there is normal foot traffic.
