Property owners in Lethbridge will have to pay a bit more in taxes this year.

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Lethbridge City Council passed a few bylaws related to property taxes.

As was previously approved in the four-year operating budget for 2023-2026, council is going ahead with a 5.1 per cent increase in the municipal portion of property taxes.

The City of Lethbridge also collects taxes on behalf of the Government of Alberta and the Green Acres Foundation. These are included in your property tax bill, but revenues do go to the City.

“Of each $1 on your property tax bill, 75 cents is for the City Operating Budget, 24 cents is for Alberta Education and one cent is for Green Acres Foundation,” reads a media release from the City of Lethbridge.

For residential property owners, the provincial education tax levy is set to go up by 13.34 per cent, and the Green Acres levy will increase by 3.92 per cent.

Based on the average home assessed at $359,000, homeowners will pay an additional $238.61 in property taxes in 2025, bringing their total tax bill to $3,803.28 for the year.

All 2025 property tax notices will be mailed out on May 13, with a due date of June 30. For more information on how property taxes are calculated, visit www.lethbridge.ca/taxes.

Bylaw 6482, the 2025 Pre-Authorized Tax Installment Pre-Payment Plan (TIPP), was also approved by Council on Tuesday. This allows property owners to pay their taxes in monthly installments. More information is available here.
