Hours reduced again at Bow Island emergency department

May 1, 2025 | 8:50 AM

After just a few weeks of extended hours, residents of Bow Island are right back to where they started.

Effective immediately, the Bow Island Health Centre emergency department will be open from 7:00 a.m. on Fridays until 7:00 a.m. on Mondays. It will be closed every other day of the week, including the recently added Thursdays.

Alberta Health Services says there is an ongoing clinical personnel shortage and an inability to secure regular and consistent coverage.

Anyone in Bow Island who needs emergency care during the site’s closures can phone 911. Patients can be transferred to neighbouring health centres as needed.

Residents can also seek emergency services at the Taber Health Centre or Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, both of which are about 57 kilometres away from Bow Island.

Nursing staff will remain on site to look after long-term care residents.

Those who have non-urgent health-related questions can phone Health Link at 811 at any time.
