Hack and Seek student event returns to Lethbridge Polytechnic
Lethbridge Polytechnic will once again host Hack and Seek, Alberta’s premier virtual reality (VR) hackathon for high school students this weekend.
The event, simultaneously held in Calgary and Edmonton, will see students in grades 10 through 12 from across the province collaborate, compete and create virtual solutions to real-world challenges on May 2 to 4.
“Hack and Seek is a great opportunity to showcase your creativity, learn from professionals and compete for prizes in a fun, free and fast-paced environment,” says Anamaria Turuk, applied research operations officer, Centre for Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. “This is a great experience for high school students interested in virtual experiences.”
Organizers say students will work in teams of three to design and build a VR application over three days. Each team will have participated in three expert-led online workshops focused on 3D modeling and employing game engines to create and design virtual experiences, ultimately preparing them for the competition. On day three, teams will present their final product to a panel of industry judges, competing for top prizes and a coveted spot on the Hack and Seek champions list.
