For the next four months, there will be another way for Albertans to drive down to the United States.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says the Chief Mountain port of entry will open for the summer season from May 15 to September 30, 2025.

The border crossing is on Highway 6 in Alberta, just east of Waterton Lakes National Park. More than 65,000 travellers used the crossing last year.

Its hours of operation will be as follows:

  • May 15, 2025 – May 31, 2025: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • June 1, 2025 – September 1, 2025: 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • September 2, 2025 – September 30, 2025: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“Due to the harsh winters and its high elevation, the Chief Mountain port of entry only operates seasonally from May to September,” reads a news release from the CBSA.
