Set to become a permanent member of the Western Hockey League (WHL) this fall, a prospect for the Lethbridge Hurricanes is already getting accolades.

Easton Daneault has been named the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year.

The 17-year-old forward was selected by the Canes in the seventh round (146 overall) in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

He has spent the 2024-25 season with the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), appearing in 54 regular-season games and collecting 56 points (21g-35a) along with 60 penalty minutes.

Daneault finished the regular season second in scoring for the Dragons and seventh in AJHL scoring. He was named the AJHL Rookie of the Year as well.

He also competed in six games with the Hurricanes this past season, registering one assist in his debut against the Calgary Hitmen on December 27, 2024.

The Canes say Daneault is expected to be on their main roster for the upcoming 2025-26 regular season.
