A local school is being celebrated for its efforts to promote inclusion.

Inclusion Lethbridge is set to bestow Nicholas Sheran Elementary School with the Betty Grigg Inclusive Education Award at a gala this weekend.

The award is given to a school that displays outstanding inclusive practices in dealing with staff, students, families and the community, and recognizes a culture of inclusion through both leadership and action.

“It honours schools that find ways to make sure all students have the support and opportunity to achieve their academic potential, all while enjoying full participation in all school activities with friends and classmates,” reads a news release from the Lethbridge School Division.

The award is named after Betty Grigg, one of the parents who led a movement 65 years ago to ensure that all people are welcomed and included.

The school division says she was known for building awareness and networks.
