Tornado risk in parts of southern Alberta

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for a section of the region.

As of approximately 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, they say that “Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.”

“There is also a risk of a tornado.”

Some of the communities that are included in the alert are Lethbridge, Taber, Milk River, Medicine Hat, Brooks and Drumheller.

The weather forecaster expects there to be possible thunderstorms until Monday evening.

“Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles.”
