Closed door makes a big difference in Lethbridge house fire
Officials with the City of Lethbridge say a closed door helped contain a house fire in south Lethbridge.
The city says fire crews from three stations responded to the 1800 block of 18 Street South at around 2:10 p.m. Monday. Officials say the 19 firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from the one-story family home. Inside, they battled heavy smoke and heat but were able to contain the fire to a bedroom on the main floor.
No injuries were reported, and damage is estimated between $50,000 and $75,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to city officials, the people inside the home closed the bedroom door before leaving. They say this one move helped stop the fire from spreading. Officials note that closing doors during a fire, when safe to do so, can make a big difference in containing the spread of flames.
