Klaas VanderVeen resigns from Lethbridge County council

A local councillor has stepped down.

Klaas VanderVeen has resigned as the Division Six Councillor for Lethbridge County, effective May 15, 2025.

He says is moving out of the Division, and will therefore no longer be able to fulfil his obligations to the community.

“It has been a true privilege to serve the residents of Lethbridge County since 2017,” says VanderVeen. “This role has been immensely rewarding, and I am grateful for the chance to connect with and collaborate alongside so many outstanding individuals during my time on Council.”

VanderVeen tendered his resignation at Thursday’s Lethbridge County council meeting.

Since the 2025 municipal election is about five months away, set for October 20, a by-election will not be held to fill the vacancy.

Division Six encompasses the rural areas surrounding Picture Butte, including the hamlet of Shaughnessy.
