Recreators in the Lethbridge River Valley have a new way to stay hydrated.

The City of Lethbridge has installed four new public water faucets on the exteriors of the park’s four washroom buildings.

Parks Project Manager Craig Richter says the auto-shutoff taps are part of the City’s efforts to improve park amenities and promote public health and safety.

“We’re proud to offer these new waterspouts to make the park more accessible and comfortable, especially during the hotter months,” says Richter. “They’re here, in part, to help you, or perhaps a pet, stay hydrated during your visit.”

The fountains also make it easier for people who are using the outdoor fire pits to extinguish the flames.

“The fire risk this season is unusually high,” says Chief Fire Marshal, Troy Hicks. “One small spark is all it takes to cause a wildfire. We are asking everyone to help us prevent that by following the rules and checking fire bans before having a fire in the river valley. It is a shared responsibility.”

Due to recent rain and cooler temperatures, the City of Lethbridge lifted its River Valley fire ban on Thursday, May 15.
