Premier Danielle Smith has announced new appointments to her government’s caucus.

The 10 members comprise MLAs who are seasoned in senior roles and those who are being promoted for the first time.

“I’m eager to collaborate with this dedicated team to fulfill the commitments we made to Albertans during the last election,” says Smith. “Our government has already addressed many key priorities of Albertans, but we know there is more work to do, and I’m excited to continue working alongside each of my cabinet colleagues as we move forward an ambitious agenda for Albertans.”

Joseph Schow

The MLA for Cardston-Siksika is Alberta’s new Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration.

He was previously the Minister of Tourism and Sport and has served as Government House Leader.

Before being elected for the first time in 2019, Schow was a legislative coordinator for the Alberta Government and was a parliamentary assistant for the federal government.

Grant Hunter

The MLA for Taber-Warner has been appointed the Associate Minister of Water.

He will also be the Chief Government Whip.

Hunter has been a member of the provincial government since 2015, holding roles such as Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction and serving on various committees.

Other Appointments

The full list of new cabinet appointments is:

  • Minister of Advanced Education, Myles McDougall
  • Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services, Matt Jones
  • Minister of Indigenous Relations, Rajan Sawhney
  • Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade, and Immigration, Joseph Schow

Adriana LaGrange’s role has been altered from Health Minister to Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services. Demetrios Nicolaides will be adding childcare to his portfolio to become the Minister of Education and Childcare.

Jason Nixon will see his title changed to the Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services.
