Wagon rides

Always a visitor favourite! Bar U Ranch guests learn the story of the ranch while being pulled by our gentle giants, the Percheron draft horses. Complimentary wagon rides are hosted by Parks Canada staff and offer an authentic way to see the site. The rides run multiple times a day, though availability may vary and accessibility is limited.

Ranch animals

The return of cattle to the Bar U Ranch NHS means that this spring was busy with calving. Bar U now has several adorable calves for visitors to see, alongside their mothers. Visitors can learn about the history of cattle ranching while meeting Toques, a two-year-old steer, or patting one of Bar U Ranch’s saddle horses.

Nature walks

Bar U Ranch offers a variety of scenic viewpoints and trails. Pekisko Creek meanders its way through the site providing tranquil creek sounds, excellent songbird spotting, and exceptional picnic spots.

Explore historic buildings

Did you know that Bar U Ranch has the largest collection of historical ranch buildings in Canada? There are 35 historic structures to explore when on site – and every one of them has a story. Visitors can interact with the site’s interpreters at the Saddlehorse Barn, or visit the Tractor Shed to see farming equipment of days gone by.

Visitor centre

Start your day at the updated Bar U visitor centre which includes never-before-displayed artifacts, new seating areas, and complimentary coffee. The Pekisko Creek General Store has souvenirs and snacks available for purchase. Stay for a complimentary movie: The Mighty Bar U. It’s a great way to learn more about the ranch’s history.
