The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has apprehended a minor after an alleged shooting caused damage to vehicles.

Around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, police say a 17-year-old boy in a red hoodie shot directly at the occupants of vehicles along McMaster Boulevard West and Temple Boulevard West.

LPS says the incident resulted in vehicles being dented and windshields shattered. There is no word on whether the occupants were hurt.

Officers attended the area and said they saw the suspect fleeing from a business and leaving a bag in the custody of another youth.

The bag reportedly contained a black airsoft gun that resembled a Glock pistol with the magazine still inside the chamber, as well as two additional containers of BBs/pellets.

The suspect was arrested a short distance away.

LPS says the suspect cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He is charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000, as well as one count each of damage to property, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, failing to comply with a sentence, and using an imitation firearm in the commission of an indictable offence.

The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, May 21.
