Lauchlan Irish is out to prove that he is the best collegiate triple jumper in the world.

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns have announced that he has qualified for the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games, set to take place July 21-27 in Bochum, Germany.

“Being selected to represent Canada at the FISU Games is a huge honour and a dream come true,” said Irish. “It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to reach this point, but I couldn’t have done it alone – my coaches have put in just as much effort alongside me. This achievement is truly the result of our collective teamwork.”

Athletics Canada lists Irish’s personal best for the outdoor triple jump as 15.19 metres, nearly 50 feet.

The Victoria, B.C., native says his time with the Pronghorns program and the U of L was instrumental in his success.

“My experience at the University of Lethbridge and with the Pronghorns has been essential in getting me here. I’m incredibly grateful for the guidance and support from Larry Steinke, Aaron Hernandez and Jamie Thomas,” says Irish. “Each of them has played a key role in helping me develop both as an athlete and as a person. Their coaching, encouragement and belief in me have meant a great deal.”

A total of 50 student-athletes will represent Canada at the Games. You can see the full list here.
