LPS arrests impaired driver, issues dozens of tickets during long weekend blitz

Members of the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) were kept busy over the May long weekend.

Officers conducted a traffic enforcement blitz and issued 36 tickets, removed one impaired driver from the road and arrested a person on an outstanding warrant.

This is part of a regular enforcement initiative that has been ongoing during the warmer months of the year since 2022.

It targets high-risk and nuisance driving behaviors, such as excessive vehicle noise, racing and stunting.

LPS says these issues become more prominent during the spring and summer, adding that they will not tolerate those types of actions.

Repeat offenders who have not remedied previously identified and enforced equipment violations may have their license plate and vehicle registration seized. They may also have their vehicle towed.

“Members of the Traffic Response Unit will provide a highly visible police presence during these targeted projects to deter illegal driving activity and conduct enforcement,” says LPS. “This initiative is over and above traffic enforcement that is conducted daily by TRU members and other patrol officers.”

Violations and high-risk driving behaviours can be reported to LPS at 403-328-4444.
