The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says its ongoing targeted enforcement project is delivering results.

On Wednesday, May 21, uniformed and covert members of the LPS Downtown Policing Unit, Crime Suppression Team, Property Crimes Unit, Community Peace Officers, and their partners with the Alberta Sheriffs SCAN team went after offenders in the downtown core.

LPS says they executed 33 outstanding warrants, laid 20 criminal charges, and seized 1,109 doses of methamphetamine, 59 doses of fentanyl and 24 doses of cocaine.

Officers also recovered stolen property from two separate incidents of shoplifting.

Police say the targeted enforcement operation will continue throughout the year.

“Businesses and visitors in the downtown area can expect to see a heightened police presence on the days the teams are deployed as officers work to actively target high frequency offenders and areas with high volumes of crime,” says LPS.

Crime can be reported to LPS by phoning 403-328-4444.
