Mandatory evacuation order issued for Swan Hills

May 26, 2025 | 6:57 PM

A mandatory evacuation order is now in place for Swan Hills.

The Town of Swan Hills issued the order the evening of Monday, May 26.

It says in a social media post that wildfire has forced the evacuation and that people are to leave immediately.

The post also says that people should “gather pets, important documents and medication, enough food, water and supplies for at least three days.”

The Edith Lake wildfire is burning seven kilometres north of Swan Hills. The out of control fire that was discovered Sunday has burned 2000 hectares. The cause is under investigation

A reception centre has been set up at the Allan and Jean Miller Centre in Whitecourt.

Evacuees are encouraged to register at the centre or, if they are not going to the centre, by calling 780-778-3637.

The town says anyone who needs a ride can catch a bus from the Keyano Centre parking lot.
