Stolen vehicle recovered in Crowsnest Pass

The RCMP in southern Alberta says it has tracked down a man who allegedly stole a vehicle.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, Crowsnest Pass RCMP was called to a rural property on Highway 22 on reports that a vehicle that had been stolen out of Blairmore earlier that day.

The vehicle was reportedly seen leaving the area of Highway 22, and it was later discovered in the Hamlet of Lundbreck.

Officers say a suspect was seen leaving the vehicle on foot.

Just after midnight, a member of Citizens on Patrol reported a “suspicious person” who reportedly matched the description of the driver of the stolen truck.

More resources were called in to help, from the Piikani and Pincher Creek RCMP, as well as Police Dog Services and a drone. They were able to find the suspect, allegedly concealed in a stack of hay bales.

Russell Edward Dick, 38, of Spruce Grove, s charged with possessing stolen property, resisting arrest, possessing break-in instruments, driving while prohibited, and possessing methamphetamine.

A range of arrest warrants were also executed on behalf of the Edmonton Police Service, relating to mischief and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Following a bail hearing, Dick was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Fort Macleod on May 29, 2025.
