Fort Macleod emergency department temporarily closed

May 29, 2025 | 8:38 AM

Residents of Fort Macleod will temporarily need to seek emergency healthcare elsewhere.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says the emergency department at the town’s health centre closed at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, and is set to reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 30.

The closure is due to an unexpected clinical personnel shortage and an inability to secure coverage.

Anyone needing emergency care during this time can phone 911, and calls will be redirected to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is 49 kilometres away.

Patients can also travel to the Pincher Creek Health Centre, Cardston Health Centre, Claresholm Community Health Centre or Chinook Regional Hospital.

Anyone with non-urgent health-related questions can phone Health Link at 811 at any time.

During the closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to look after long-term care residents.
