Applications are now open for a brand new program at Lethbridge Polytechnic.

The post-secondary institution is offering a Powerline Technician Apprenticeship program, set to launch in October 2025.

The four-year apprenticeship consists of three years of classroom learning and a fourth year requiring additional workplace hours.

The program covers the first two years of the Power System Electrician program, allowing students the opportunity to start this training at Lethbridge Polytechnic.

Dean of the Centre for Trades and Technologies Sheldon Anderson says they are one of just two schools in Alberta offering this course.

“Introducing the Powerline Technician Apprenticeship is a natural step forward following the success of our pre-employment program, which has prepared job seekers with the foundational skills to enter the industry,” says Anderson.

He adds that, as Alberta continues to meet the energy demands of tomorrow, there will be a great need for the next generation of skilled powerline technicians.
