Southern Alberta communities break temperature records for May 29

A number of temperature records were broken throughout southern Alberta on Thursday.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the Bow Island area set a new record of 32.2 degrees Celsius on May 29, surpassing the old record of 29.4 set in 1966. Records in that area have been kept since 1961.

The Claresholm area set a new record of 32.7 degrees Celsius on May 29, beating the previous record high for that date of 31.5 set in 1986. Records in the Claresholm area have been kept since 1951.

The Milk River area set a new record of 31.8 degrees Celsius for May 29, passing the former record high of 27.7 set in 1995. Records in the Milk River area have been kept since 1994.

The Pincher Creek area saw the thermometer reach 30.7 degrees Celsius on May 29, beating the old record of 30.0 set in 1936. Records in the Pincher Creek area have been kept since 1893.
