Officials say they are taking all necessary precautions after an explosive item was located at a facility in Taber.

The Taber Police Service says it received a call from the Taber Interpretive Centre Museum, also known as the Tank 77 Museum, on Thursday morning.

Staff informed police that they had located an old intact grenade.

The museum and the Aquafun Centre have been temporarily closed.

Police say they will remain on scene until bomb disposal experts can deal with the grenade.

The public is asked to stay away from the area for the time being.
