LPS officer gets probation for on-duty incident

Jun 18, 2025 | 8:38 AM

An officer with the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) will be on probation for the next year.

LPS says Chris Stock has been conditionally discharged following an incident involving a person in custody.

On May 10, 2023, police say a physical altercation occurred between Stock and a male prisoner in the LPS Short Term Holding Facility while the man was being booked into cells.

The man was not injured.

Stock, who has been with LPS for the past 23 years, plead guilty to one count of assault in the Calgary Court of Justice.

He has been conditionally discharged, meaning that a finding of guilt was made, but no conviction was entered. Upon completing one year of probation, the discharge will be removed from Stock’s record after a set time.

Now that the court matter has concluded, LPS says it is now able to begin its own internal investigation. LPS does not plan to release any further information at this time.
