UPDATE: The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says the body of a 17-year-old boy has been recovered.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) says its Water Rescue Team found the teen’s body in the area where he was last seen near the High Level Bridge.

He will be taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary. While LPS does not suspect foul play, the police investigation will remain active pending the results of an autopsy.

As this matter is non-criminal in nature, LPS will not be releasing any further information.

Original Story:

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says a teenager remains missing after reportedly drowning in the Oldman River.

Police, along with Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES), were called to an area of the coulees near the High Level Bridge around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

Officers heard that a 17-year-old boy, who was attempting to swim across the river, went underwater by the bridge and did not resurface.

Police deployed a drone while the LFES Dive Team launched a sonar-equipped boat to search the area. Members of the Lethbridge and Area Search and Rescue Association scoured the river banks.

“The male was not recovered and the search was suspended when it became too dark and unsafe to continue,” reads a news release from LPS. “Search efforts resumed earlier this morning and remain ongoing.”

Several witnesses have been interviewed. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest foul play.

A large area in the river valley near the High Level Bridge remains cordoned off, and the public is asked to stay away so investigators can continue their search.

LPS says updates will be provided when possible.
