Fire bans lifted in Lethbridge & Lethbridge County

Jun 23, 2025 | 10:53 AM

This weekend’s heavy rain and lower temperatures have greatly reduced the risks of wildfires spreading.

That is why the City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge County have both lifted their fire bans, effective immediately.

The City’s ban covered the River Valley, and anybody looking to have an outdoor fire is asked to ensure they use clean, dry wood and that their fire is completely extinguished before leaving.

The County says recreational campfires are once again allowed, and residents can apply for burning permits for activities like burning barrels and incinerators.

“Remember that only untreated wood and yard waste (leaves, branches, weeds) can legally be burned. Any other materials (ie. household garbage, rubber, plastic) can never be burned,” says Lethbridge County.

For both municipalities, the public is asked to be mindful when disposing of smoking materials as they can easily ignite dry vegetation.

Lethbridge County adds, “Although the risk is low now, the forecast for the upcoming week indicates higher temperatures and wind that are likely to raise the risk of wildfires. The Fire Ban may be re-issued later this week.”

Environment Canada is calling for daily highs in the mid-20s for most of this week in Lethbridge.
