The Lethbridge Police Service has apprehended a man who is accused of sexually assaulting a woman.

On June 19, 2025, police say they heard that a 50-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted. She told LPS that, after being driven home in a taxi, the driver sexually assaulted her before she could exit the vehicle.

The man allegedly called her numerous times and attended her home later in the day, repeatedly knocking on the door.

The woman claims that the same driver gave her a ride home earlier this year and offered to help her carry her groceries inside, but instead of leaving them at her door, entered her home without permission and used the washroom before leaving.

Sujeepan Sathiyananthan, 35, of Lethbridge, is charged with sexual assault and unlawfully being in a dwelling house.

Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Sathiyananthan was released from custody with conditions of no contact with the victim. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 8.
