Lethbridge will be one of two southern Alberta cities hosting some of the top prospects in hockey.

The Canadian Hockey League (CHL), along with its three member leagues, has announced that Lethbridge and Calgary will serve as the host cities for the 2025 CHL USA Prospects Challenge.

The first game of the two-game series will take place at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary on Tuesday, November 25, while the second contest will take place the following day, November 26, at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

This will be the second iteration of the event, which sees top NHL Draft-eligible prospects from the WHL, OHL and QMJHL compete against those from the USA National Team Development Program (NTDP) U-18 Team.

The leagues expect many of these players to be selected in the early rounds of the 2026 NHL Draft.

CHL President Dan MacKenzie says he is excited to bring the CHL USA Prospects Challenge to Alberta this fall.

“These two passionate hockey communities will provide an exceptional backdrop to highlight the CHL’s top prospects eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft, giving fans in both of these markets the opportunity to see a premier best-on-best competition featuring the next generation of NHL talent,” says MacKenzie. “This event not only highlights elite competition but also strengthens the cross-border rivalry that makes this series so compelling for fans and scouts alike.”

Terry Huisman, Manager of Business Operations for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, adds that this event will be great for the community, the organization and especially hockey fans.

“We believe that our community and the City of Lethbridge will do a great job of hosting this event while being able to showcase what Lethbridge is all about and what we have to offer. We look forward to helping grow this event and take it to another level,” says Huisman.

The teams for the CHL USA Prospects Challenge have not been announced at this time.

It has been a busy last couple of weeks for the Hurricanes, who not only announced their pre-season and regular season schedules, but also named their new head coach.
