Lethbridge Hurricanes make three selections in CHL Import Draft

Three Europeans are set to move to Lethbridge after the CHL Import Draft.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes made three selections at the draft, which was held Wednesday morning.

Their first pick, 52nd overall, was 17-year-old Filip Novak.

Novak, a 6’2″, 200-pound forward from Chomutov, Czechia, appeared in just 14 games this past season due to an injury, amassing 15 points (7g-8a) along with 16 penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating with the HC Sparta Praha club.

The second selection from the Canes was Tomas Malinek, 113th overall. The 6’1″ defenceman from Praha, Czechia, appeared in 44 regular season games with the HC Sparta Praha U20 club, collecting 17 points (4g-13a) along with 24 penalty minutes and a plus-9 rating. Malinek competed in the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton, helping his home country to earn a silver medal.

Mykolas Skadauskas was picked up with Lethbridge’s final selection, 174th overall. Hailing from Vilnius, Lithuania, he got 35 points (22g-13a) along with 40 penalty minutes with the IFK Taby HC J18 club in Sweden.
