Southern Alberta Summer Games kick off Wednesday in Taber

Some of southern Alberta’s finest athletes are set to compete in Taber this week.

The town is hosting the Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG), which take place July 2-5, 2025.

Competitors will take part in events such as foot races, basketball, bowling, shooting, archery, ball hockey, baseball, badminton, beach volleyball, cribbage, golf, mini soccer, motocross, mountain biking, powerlifting, pickleball, soccer and swimming.

Esports events will feature Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Southern Alberta Recreation Association Chair Kaylee Ostenberg previously said in a news release that the SASG have been a tremendous success over the last few years.

“We are extremely excited about the Town of Taber hosting the 2025 Southern Alberta Summer Games. Based on the feedback received last year from both new and returning athletes, we are confident that this year will also be exceptional,” says Ostenberg.

The Town of Taber is putting on a series of festivities to coincide with the SASG, featuring:

• Wednesday, July 2^nd
  • Welcome BBQ (5:30 p.m.) at Confederation Park to follow the Opening Ceremonies and Athlete March
• Thursday, July 3^th
  • Tabers Farmers Market (5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.)
  • Friday, July 4^th
• Taber Spray Park ( Open daily 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.)
  • Taber Library Arts and Crafts (10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.)
• Saturday, July 5^th
  • Closing Ceremonies (5:00 p.m.) at Confederation Park
  • After Party for Athletes & Family (6:00 p.m.) at The Pin
