Another contender has entered the race for Lethbridge City Council.

Margaret (Magie) Matulic has filed her nomination papers for the municipal election, which takes place October 8-20.

She provided the following answers to a questionnaire from LNN:

Why did you want to run for Lethbridge City Council?

I am running as a candidate to assist Lethbridge and its citizens in transitioning from old systems of governance to new systems. The reality is that we are at the end of a cycle, and a new system is quickly emerging. I am part of the next wave of new leaders, bringing new energy and hope – I refer to this as “The Shift,” and it supports the principle of people over politicians. I am internally guided to step up, speak up, and be of service to this community.

What personal or professional experience do you have that you feel would make you a good city councillor?

I am a seasoned local business owner/operator with excellent management skills. My true advantage is that I am neither a career politician nor a political pundit. I am a citizen who was completely apathetic and disinterested in politics until 2020. It was then that I began to look more closely at the political arena and players. The realization I came to is that the majority of citizens are grossly uninformed about the government and are happy to have someone else take the helm. If you don’t regularly invest and take ownership in your community, someone else will… and that someone may not have your best interests in mind. I plan to educate people on governance and put them in the driver’s seat. United, we can effect positive change to uplift everyone in our city.

What would be a few of your top priorities if elected?

If elected, my top priorities are aimed at resolving the fundamental problems of an inherently flawed system.

1) REFORMS – a recall mandate, less government, and implementing technology for transparency and accountability.

2) REMOVALS – refusing funds and contracts with strings attached from special interest groups to further their agendas and not our own needs here in the city, such as infrastructure.

3) REGENERATION – keeping cash in our community longer, getting value for your tax dollars, and encouraging youth involvement as our future leaders.

Where can people learn more about you and your platform?

The best place for people to learn more about me and my ideas is my website at www.bridgebuilder2025.com. From there, you can view my YouTube channel and Facebook page, where I regularly post fresh content that is specifically curated and crafted to engage citizens.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We are truly living in such exciting – albeit challenging – times. Everything you can imagine is changing. I am able to see the future with crystal clarity, and I know the direction to head in, along with the steps to take to get us there. It is not going to be easy, but it will be worth it. The summer of 2025 will prove to be highly tumultuous, and the next four years will be unlike anything we have ever experienced. If you are adaptable, open-minded, and community-focused, it will be easier to make the shift. Talk to your neighbours, step outside of your comfort zone to ask tougher questions of leaders, and get active in your community today. Your choice is either fearfully clinging to the old or flowing with the new. Pause and choose wisely. I’m here to co-create a progressive, prosperous, and politically active Lethbridge. Join me and join The Shift.
