Periodic closures at Fort Macleod emergency department for three days

Jul 4, 2025 | 9:01 AM

Residents of Fort Macleod who need emergency care over the next few days will have to look elsewhere.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says there will be temporary closures at the emergency department at the town’s Health Centre.

The closures will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day, starting on Friday, July 4, and returning to 24-hour service on Monday, July 7.

AHS says this is due to an unexpected shortage of clinical personnel and an inability to secure coverage.

During these times, nursing staff will remain on-site to look after long-term care residents.

Patients in Fort Macleod who need emergency care during the closures are asked to call 911. EMS calls will be rerouted to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is 49 km away.

They can also seek services at Chinook Regional Hospital or the Health Centres in Pincher Creek, Cardston or Claresholm.

Those with non-urgent health-related questions can phone Health Link at 811 at any time.
