LPS urging safety during Street Wheelers weekend

Everyone is being asked to do their part to keep the streets of Lethbridge safe.

Street Wheelers, the city’s annual classic car show, takes place July 11-13, 2025.

Tony Ramatowski, Sgt. of the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) Traffic Response Unit, is expecting an influx of thousands of people and hundreds of vehicles this weekend, along with a “huge increase” in illegal driving behaviours.

“Just because it’s a car show, people think that it’s a free pass to break the law, basically, and stunt, speed, disobey traffic laws, all types of incidents,” says Ramatowski.

During the 2024 Street Wheelers event, police issued 124 tickets, arrested nine impaired drivers, laid seven criminal code charges, executed 10 outstanding warrants, towed 10 vehicles and issued 50 warnings.

LPS will have a presence throughout the city during the event, but will focus more heavily on Mayor Magrath Drive South and 3 Ave South.

They will be targeting infractions including speeding, stunting, excessive noise, vehicle equipment regulations, impaired driving and distracted driving.

Drivers are being encouraged to follow all of the rules of the road, and pedestrians should take extra caution when crossing the street.

Street Wheelers will feature a wide range of events, such as the Classic Car Controlled Cruise, 100 Foot Dash and the Show & Shine.
