Alberta’s New Democrat Caucus launches ‘Better Together Summer’

Jul 15, 2025 | 11:21 AM

Alberta’s official opposition announced Monday its new province-wide initiative to connect with Albertans and push back against what they call Premier Danielle Smith’s separatist agenda.

The ‘Better Together Summer’ plan will include events in Lethbridge Aug. 18, Red Deer Aug. 27, Edmonton Aug. 28, Calgary Sept. 9, and Airdrie Sept. 11.

The events will run while the UCP government holds Alberta Next Panel town hall discussions over the next few months.

“Danielle Smith’s separatist agenda puts everything at risk — investments, jobs, and the everyday systems we rely on like health care—all to hold her political coalition together. That’s not leadership; it’s self-serving recklessness,” said Nenshi, in a press release. “Albertans are proud of this country, and they deserve a government that feels the same.”

Over the summer, party officials say Nenshi and Alberta’s New Democrat Caucus will travel across Alberta, knocking on doors, attending community events, hosting town halls and listening directly to Albertans about what building a strong future for Canada looks like.

The party says the UCP government continues to isolate Alberta from the rest of the country, with costly and destabilizing policy ideas like withdrawing from the Canada Pension Plan, replacing the RCMP, and lowering the threshold for a referendum on separation.

“Albertans want leadership that builds bridges, not walls,” said Nenshi. “They want a government that listens and that understands that unity, not division, is the path forward.

Officials say the Better Together summer will focus on mid-size and smaller communities.

“This summer is all about listening, connecting, and showing Albertans that they’re not alone,” said Nenshi. “Because when we lead with hope, and when we show up for one another, that’s when Alberta is at its best. That’s what it means to be Better Together.”

Albertans are invited to attend events and town halls with Nenshi and other Alberta New Democrat MLAs, with details at BetterTogetherSummer.ca.
