A member of Coaldale town council will play a key role in shaping southern Alberta’s new regional healthcare zone.

The Alberta Government, through a ministerial order, has appointed Jacen Abrey as the Chair of Regional Advisory Council 13 (South Zone) for a three-year term.

He will represent communities throughout the zone, including Lethbridge, Coaldale, Coutts, Pincher Creek, Taber, Fort Macleod, Cardston, Raymond, Granum, Hays, Blairmore, Milk River, the Piikani Nation, and Kainai (Blood) First Nation.

Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn congratulated Abrey on his new role.

“On behalf of the Town of Coaldale and our Council, congratulations, Councillor Abrey, on this well-earned and meaningful appointment. Your continued leadership and passion for public service will help shape the future of health care in our region and beyond,” says Van Rijn.

He continues, “We know you will represent not only Coaldale, but all of Southwest Alberta, with vision, integrity, and commitment.”

Abrey has more than 30 years of experience in public service, including positions in emergency management, fire services and community recovery. He has previously worked as a registered paramedic and firefighter.

The regional advisory councils were announced by the province on July 10, saying that members will share local and regional perspectives on health care issues, planning and priorities to help ensure decisions reflect the realities of their communities.

Members are still being sought for the 14 councils. You can learn more about them, including how to apply, on the Alberta Government’s website.
