Water quality advisory lifted for Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says it is once again safe to go in the water at a provincial park in southern Alberta.

It has lifted the water quality advisory for Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park that had been in place since May 26, 2025.

“Water quality, including fecal bacteria levels, has returned to an acceptable level and the health risk is low for usage of the river for recreational purposes, such as swimming,” reads an update from AHS.

As a general rule, however, AHS advises the public to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir at any time.
