Lethbridge County downgrades fire restriction to fire advisory

Jul 22, 2025 | 9:09 AM

Recent rain and cooler temperatures have improved the risk of fires in Lethbridge County.

The municipality has downgraded its fire restriction, which was enacted on July 14, to a fire advisory.

The change will allow for controlled burns and fireworks with a valid permit.

Assuming all of the specifications under the County’s Fire Bylaw are met, the following types of fires and devices are allowed under the Fire Advisory:

  • Controlled burns (e.g., yard waste, burn pits) – permit required
  • Fireworks – permit required
  • Recreational campfires (in approved fire pits)
  • Burn barrels and incinerators with spark arrestors
  • Charcoal briquette barbecues
  • Gas/propane heaters, stoves, barbecues (CSA/ULC approved)
  • Wood pellet grills
  • Gas/propane firepits/rings (CSA/ULC approved)

Although the fire risk has decreased, Lethbridge County reminds residents that wildfires can still start under dry or windy conditions.

Warmer weather is in the forecast for the coming weeks, so officials say fire regulations could change.
