Another man has entered the city council race in Lethbridge.

Suketu Shah has filed his nomination papers to run in the 2025 municipal election, which takes place October 8-20.

He provided the following answers to a questionnaire from LNN:

Why did you want to run for Lethbridge City Council?

I’m running for city council because I believe every voice in our city deserves to be heard — not just during election time, but every day. I first ran in 2021 after feeling that community concerns weren’t reaching the council table. That desire to represent people with integrity and transparency hasn’t changed. I’m passionate about building a Lethbridge where decisions are made with input from the people who live here.

What personal or professional experience do you have that you feel would make you a good city councillor?

I’ve worked in mortgage financing and insurance for several years, and currently serve [on the] board of directors for the Lethbridge Hurricanes and have served as vice-president for Gujarati Society of Lethbridge and area. These roles have taught me how to manage budgets responsibly, adapt quickly to change, and lead with compassion. I’m deeply connected to Lethbridge’s business community and immigrant communities, and I understand the importance of fiscal prudence, collaboration, and communication.

What would be a few of your top priorities if elected?

  • Hosting biannual public town halls to improve transparency and give residents a direct voice in local governance
  • Supporting downtown safety and livability by working alongside police and service providers to address homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges
  • Protecting our waterways and green spaces to ensure a clean and healthy Lethbridge for future generations
  • Championing smart economic decisions that support small businesses and help our local economy thrive through these uncertain times

Where can people learn more about you and your platform?

People can follow me on social media at @SuketuShahYQL on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). A campaign website is also in the works and will be launched soon.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I’m proud to call Lethbridge home and want to ensure that our city remains a place where people from all backgrounds feel welcomed, heard, and included. I bring a business-minded, people-first perspective to city council, and I’m committed to helping Lethbridge thrive for generations to come. Thank you again for the opportunity.
