Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede kicks off Wednesday

The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede is underway Wednesday, July 23, with the gates opening at noon.

Gate admission throughout the week is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

However, Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. is Double Toonie Day, offering admission for $4 during that time. The deal returns on Friday, with free admission for kids over the same time period.

The West Coast Amusement midway opens at noon and runs until the clock strikes midnight, as it will each night through Saturday.

Daily ride passes are available for $55. Pre-sales for the $45 passes ended on July 22.

The fire event of the day to watch is the Prairie Dogs at the grass areas east of the Stampede Office starting at 12:30 p.m.

The petting zoo opens at 1 p.m. at the South Country Co-op Pioneer Village Southeast Corner.

New to the Stampede this year is the Aces Flying Pig Races, which will have their first performance at 1:15 p.m. at the parking lot between the Stampede Office and Pioneer Village.

Several other events will continue through the day.

The night show on Wednesday includes Doc Walker taking the stage with Medicine Hat’s Rent To Own opening up the show at 7:30 p.m. in the Stampede Grandstand.

Fireworks will take place each night at 10:45 p.m.
