One of two Sylvan Lake residents accused in an incident near Crowsnest Pass in 2024 is now a free man.

On June 11, 2024, RCMP were called to a collision on Hwy 22.

Officers determined that a truck involved in the crash was stolen out of Cranbrook, B.C., while the trailer was stolen from Blairmore, Alta.

Two men were charged with 11 counts each.

In a Fort Macleod courtroom on July 17, now 25-year-old Jonathan Arsenault was sentenced to 245 days in jail on three charges — possession of property over $5,000, and two counts of possession of stolen property. Arsenault had zero days left to serve after pre-trial custody.

His other charges were withdrawn.

The co-accused, now 40-year-old Lester Martin, has a trial scheduled for Feb. 9, 2026.
