Lethbridge Corn Maze opens Friday with southwestern Alberta theme

The region’s premier maze made of maize is set to open on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Theo Slingerland, owner and operator of the Lethbridge Corn Maze, says the design for this year’s namesake maze is inspired by southwestern Alberta.

“We put our three buffalo in there that are falling off cliffs. We have, of course, the Chinook winds, so we have clouds there with the cloud symbol and the wind,” says Slingerland. “If you have enough fantasy, you can see even the Chief Mountain. I took a picture from our farm towards the mountain range in the southwest corner, and I tried to recreate that in the corn maze.”

Slingerland says he is very grateful to live in the area, and he wanted to honour all that it has to offer.

The creation of the corn maze takes several months.

He tells LNN that he plans out the maze’s design with a pencil and paper, and plants the corn in May. In June, Slingerland gets into the field for two to three days to cut out the various pathways.

The cornstalks are usually tall enough to start allowing guests in by late July, although the crops will continue to grow in the weeks ahead.

The Lethbridge Corn Maze, located approximately 23 kilometres northwest of downtown Lethbridge, offers plenty of other family-friendly activities.

Guests can check out the petting zoo, the Oliver Express train ride, jumping pillows, giant slide, rat rollers, ziplines, photo opportunities, and pallet and hedge mazes.

A new addition this year is the corn pit, which Slingerland described as a sand box, but with corn.
