Seniors at a retirement home in Lethbridge are giving back to their community.

Seasons Retirement Communities has announced the conclusion of its canned goods collection challenge.

Between its 25 locations in Canada, a total of 8,527 cans of non-perishable food were given to local food banks, as well as $50,400 in cash.

That includes 1,376 cans at its eight homes in Alberta and 228 in Lethbridge. The items that were donated in Lethbridge will be given to the Lethbridge Food Bank.

Sonni Worne, G.M. at Seasons Lethbridge Gardens, says, “Our residents’ impactful participation in this year’s ‘One Can Make a Difference’ challenge fills us with pride. This program highlights the compassionate spirit of Seasons Retirement Communities.”

Food banks across Canada have seen a 50 per cent increase in visits between 2021 and 2024. Last year, there were more than two million visits to food banks nationally.

Since 2016, Seasons Retirement Communities has donated more than $350,000 in funds and food to local food banks.
