Town of Coaldale seeking feedback on downtown redevelopment

Residents of Coaldale can help to shape the future of their community.

The Town of Coaldale has launched its multi-phase public engagement initiative, which will aid in the creation of a new Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP).

The downtown area, especially the corridor between 20 Street and 17 Street, has seen investments in public infrastructure and street spaces.

With that foundation in place, the public can help to guide future decisions around land use, business development, public space improvements, and cultural and recreational opportunities.

“Downtown Coaldale is the heart of our community,” says Spencer Croil, Director of Strategic Initiatives. “As the Town continues to grow, it’s critical that we engage our residents in meaningful conversations about how our Downtown can evolve to meet future needs while preserving the qualities that make it such a vital gathering place today.”

The first phase of public engagement is the launch of an online survey. It will explore how residents and stakeholders currently experience downtown Coaldale, which features and amenities are the most valued, and what opportunities exist for enhancement and revitalization.

Future phases, which will continue into the fall, will include interactive mapping tools, in-person engagement sessions, and opportunities for feedback on draft plan components.

Mayor Jak Van Rijn says downtown Coaldale is a reflection of the community’s identity, values and aspirations.

“As we look ahead to Coaldale’s continued growth, it is essential that we plan intentionally for the future of our Downtown. This engagement process is an important opportunity for residents and stakeholders to help shape a shared vision that will guide redevelopment in a way that is inclusive, vibrant, and reflective of our community’s needs,” says Van Rijn.

The survey can be accessed on the Town of Coaldale’s website.
