The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is reminding drivers to slow down in construction zones.

On Friday morning, July 25, officers were conducting a targeted enforcement project in the construction zone along Whoop-Up Drive.

They say “dozens” of drivers were stopped for exceeding the speed limit by 20-30 kilometres per hour. One was travelling at 45 km/hr over the posted speed limit.

“With the summer road construction season in full swing throughout the city, drivers are reminded to slow down and drive cautiously. In Alberta, speed fines are doubled in construction zones when workers are present,” says LPS.

Work started this week on a bridge rehabilitation project on Whoop-Up, which should wrap up around the end of September.

This will result in lane closures and detours over the next several weeks.
