‘O-negative’ blood donors needed in Lethbridge area

Canadian Blood Services (CBS) is asking anyone with an O-negative blood type to donate.

The organization is holding a special blood donation event at the Agri-food Hub & Trade Centre in Lethbridge on August 13, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“O-negative blood is vital in emergency care, because it is compatible with all blood types, and can be given to any patient. When seconds count, and there is no time to check blood types, hospital patients receive O-negative blood,” says CBS.

Anyone who is O-negative is asked to call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) to book an appointment to donate on August 13.

If you have O-negative blood, it is more likely that somebody in your family has it as well.

“While O-negative blood donors are especially needed right away, donors of all types are encouraged to make a plan to donate plasma this summer at the donor centre located at 3735 Mayor Macgrath Drive.”

Visit blood.ca or download the GiveBlood app to book an appointment to donate plasma.
