The Alberta Government has announced funding for more student spaces in Lethbridge.

It will invest $50 million to create 62 pre-made classrooms across the province this fall.

When combined with the $50 million that was previously allocated under Budget 2025, the government looks to add a total of 2,725 student spaces within 109 modular classes.

Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides says they are moving quickly to build new schools and create more classroom spaces so students have room to grow and thrive.

“This additional funding for modular classrooms will help us get much-needed spaces to some of our busiest schools, while we work as quickly as possible to open the doors to more than 130 school projects underway in the province,” says Nicolaides.

The Lethbridge School Division has been approved for one new modular classroom.

Christ The Redeemer Catholic Schools will get one new modular room this year, as well as pre-planning funds for another. They have schools in communities such as Brooks, Okotoks, Strathmore, High River, Oyen and Canmore.

LNN has reached out to both of the school divisions to learn more.

Alberta’s student population increased by nearly 100,000 between the 2020-21 and 2024-25 school years.
