LPS issues 46 tickets during August long weekend

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) was kept busy over the long weekend.

Officers conducted a targeted traffic enforcement project, issuing a total of 46 violation tickets and 13 warnings.

They also gave out two Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) Fails, one IRS Warning, addressed one failure to stop, and executed one outstanding warrant.

This was part of an ongoing initiative that began in 2022 to address high-risk and nuisance driving behaviours such as excessive vehicle noise, racing and stunting.

The most recent enforcement blitz focused on areas along Mayor Magrath Drive and throughout the downtown core.

“Police will provide a highly visible presence during these targeted projects to deter illegal driving activity and conduct enforcement,” reads a media release from LPS. “This initiative is over and above traffic enforcement that is conducted daily by members of the Traffic Response Unit and Patrols.”

LPS is reminding drivers that there is zero tolerance for offences under the Traffic Safety Act.

Repeat offenders who have not remedied their previous violations may have their licence plate and vehicle registration seized, have their vehicle towed, and be required to complete mandatory repairs.

Traffic violations and dangerous driving behaviours can be reported to LPS at 403-328-4444.
