New pathway for south Lethbridge

Aug 11, 2025 | 6:47 AM

A fresh new route is coming to south Lethbridge.

City officials say construction is moving forward on Pathway 17. The multi-use trail will run along 43 Street South and South Parkside Drive South. Designed to improve safety and connectivity, officials note the completed path will link existing routes to form a continual loop, making it easier to walk, cycle and enjoy the outdoors.

This phase of construction begins on Monday, Aug. 11, and includes traffic disruptions and detours.

  • The intersection of 43 Street South and 20 Avenue South will be closed
  • Drivers are encouraged to use Forestry Road South (follow the posted detour signs)
  • Local traffic can access 20 Avenue South from the west at 40 Street South/Cedar Road South

City officials say the intersection should reopen on Saturday, Aug. 16, weather permitting.

Motorists are asked to please slow down in the work area and follow all posted signage.

While the construction will cause temporary traffic disruptions, the city says the long-term improvements will create a more vibrant and accessible community for everyone.
