Day two of the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s Newfoundland was a productive day for Team Alberta.

As of Monday evening, the athletes representing our province have accumulated 10 medals including three gold, four silver, and three bronze.

On Monday they claimed three gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

This includes a strong performance from Calgary’s Amaia Ervin-Arambarri who secured Alberta’s first gold in road cycling’s women’s individual time trial.

“This is my first-year cycling, I switched Triathlon into cycling this year, so it was a big shift and it took a lot of dedication and determination to get here and it’s really cool to see all the hours and time really pay off. I’m so excited and in shock still,” said Ervin-Arambarri, in a media release.

In addition, Special Olympian, Casey Kruse from Strathmore won gold in the women’s 50m special olympic breaststroke and women’s 100m special olympic freestyle.

Meantime, Red Deer’s Kingston Hitchcock won silver in the men’s 400 IM, Calgary’s Hayleigh Haines claimed silver in the women’s 50m breaststroke, Calgary’s Alan Piatek won bronze in the men’s 50m freestyle, and Didsbury’s Wesley Wilks won bronze in the men’s 50m special olympic breaststroke.
