Lethbridge food banks run out of water bottles, donations urgently needed

Aug 13, 2025 | 10:59 AM

Non-profits in Lethbridge are asking everyone who can donate bottled water to do so.

The City Wide Water Drive, which includes a variety of organizations in the city, has been collecting water to give to people who are unable to take shelter from the heat this summer.

Danielle McIntyre, Executive Director of the Interfaith Food Bank, says both they and the Lethbridge Food Bank are “completely out of water,” as well as funds for purchasing bottles for their distribution partners and outreach teams.

“We are making an urgent cry to the community for support, as the heat has hit in full force and we need donations to avoid heat emergencies for those who are unable to get out of the sun,” says McIntyre.

The United Way has contributed $7,000 to support water purchases, and the City of Lethbridge will provide up to $3,000 in matching funding for financial gifts and donations of bottled water.

Donations can be dropped off at either of the city’s main food banks.
